Hi Tony,
     Great to hear from you.

Its really hard to say how much it cost to fly to Italy in general.  Booking tickets in the off season (generally Nov-Feb) can be cheaper than the rest of the year but this is a pretty loose rule.  Different airports are going to vary significantly in price too.  I’ve always found Rome to be pretty expensive but then again Naples might be at the wrong end of the country for your trip.
I would consider flying into a different country if your plans are not too strict.  Frankfurt or Munich Germany are usually much cheaper than flying into Italy.  After you land, enjoy Germany for a couple days and make your way to your Italian destination by train.  The last few times I went to Italy I actually flew into Barcelona and then took a ferry/ cruise ship overnight to Rome (well actually Civitavecchia, but its close).  Check out www.directferries.co.uk
When looking for flight prices, I always start with www.kayak.com and more often than not use their suggestions to be redirected to the sight selling the tickets.  Be sure to double check with the actual airline’s website to make sure you’re getting the best deal. Often the best price is offered through their own site.  Take your time with this img_1313process; check different airports; days (if you can) and methods of travel.  The more flexible with your trip that you can be the easier it will be to find a great deal.  Flying in and out of different cities is not always more expensive.  Consider the cost to return to the arrival city for departure when calculating the difference.  Being able to trying Gelato or Pizza in two different regions of Italy is also an important thing to calculate in when planning your trip.
I hope you enjoy your vacation and would love to hear how things worked out for you.
  ’till soon,
  Chris.
