The Rue Mouffetard is one of the most famous sights of Paris and is lined with charming antique facades and pretty restaurants, still exuding the grandeur of having housed much of Paris’s cultural avant-garde. While preserving its charm of times past, the quartier remains an important meeting place for students and intellectuals alike. The neighboring universities La Sorbonne and Denis Diderot reflect this heritage. For more significant French history, head to the Pantheon which was modeled after the Pantheon in Rome and houses the remains of distinguished French citizens. Afterwards, you could relax in the luscious greenery of the Luxemburg Gardens or head to the Medieval Museum which stands on the site of ancient Roman baths and exhibits an outstanding collection of medieval art works.
After lunch at Le Balzar (49 rue des Ecoles), you should head towards the Ile de la Cité, one of the islands in the river Seine. A visit to the dramatic Notre Dame cathedral is a must as well as a climb up the North tower where you can take in a sweeping, breathtaking panorama of Paris. Of course, the classics of Parisian sights should not be missed. Stroll along the Seine to the Louvre or the Musée d’Orsay, the Champs-Elysées and the Arc du Triomphe. Thank goodness Paris can be taken in on foot – there are so many little boutique shops and atmospheric cafes one has to enjoy.
